Natural Justice – Executive Director
Natural Justice: Lawyers for Communities and the Environment is a young and fast-paced non-profit organisation specialising in environmental and human rights law in Africa – in pursuit of social and environmental justice. Natural Justice works at the intersection of human rights and environmental law. Their vision is the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity.
Natural Justice was seeking an outstanding individual to inspire, lead and demonstrate the same values, drive and vision as its staff, supervisory board and members. The desired candidate would have a proven track record working in a complex governance environment with multi-stakeholder involvement and passionate about environmental justice. The successful candidate would be a visionary – who has the capacity to think big and bold to lead the organization into its next phase and provide oversight on the way Natural Justice’s strategy is implemented on the ground. S/he would have proven management and not-for-profit leadership experience in Africa.
The longlist comprised 11 individuals from leading global climate action institutions and NGOs. The appointed candidate was Pooven Moodley, a Human Rights Lawyer and social justice activist from South Africa. Before joining Natural Justice he was the Associate Country Director of Oxfam GB in South Africa and the Global Head of Campaigning for ActionAid International. He most recently led with other activists, the successful Campaign for A Just Energy Future to stop South Africa’s proposed massive nuclear deal with the Russians, against all odds.
